It is now clear that Operakällaren is teaming up with Johan Evers and the team behind A Bar called Gemma to create Bar Othilia, opening on January 16, 2025.
"With Othilia, I want to create an atmosphere where you forget time and space. It should be a place where everyone feels included and at home. The first thing you should think when you leave is: 'When can I come back? The vision is to create something timeless - a place that becomes an institution in itself. By nurturing Operakällarens 's history, I want to challenge it, open it up, and bring a playful and creative energy to it," says Johan Evers.
Johan Evers is one of Sweden's most prominent bartenders, with a broad and long career with international recognition. During his career, he has received several prestigious awards, including the title of Sweden's best bartender. Johan travels the world to hold training courses, lead seminars and conduct guest performances. He is also a valued jury member in both international and national competitions. Evers is behind the success of "A Bar Called Gemma", which has not only established itself as one of Stockholm's most innovative bars, but has also received international attention and been named one of the world's best.
"Johan and I have known each other for 20 years and I have followed his success and progress over the years. Together with Johan and Bar Othilia, we have now put another important piece of the puzzle in place. The house opens up in a whole new way", says Oscar Durling, CEO AB Operakällaren.
The bar will be a long-awaited and obvious reinforcement of the overall experience at Operakällaren. To the already high level of food and wine, a world-class bar is now added, with a unique connection to Sweden's premier wine cellar, Nobiskällaren.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the world's best wines and experience guest appearances from internationally acclaimed bartenders and creators. The bar will be a destination that not only raises the bar, but also adds a whole new dimension to the gastronomic experience at Operakällaren.
"Opening our 'living room', Othilia, feels like an important part of the vision I shared with Daniel - to make Operakällaren a vibrant place that is open to everyone - and for all occasions. To be able to continue the gastronomy together with Johan and create an expression where food and drink meet in a way that has never before existed at Operakällaren is both exciting and inspiring," says Emanuel Tärnqvist, Executive Chef Operakällaren.
Othilia premieres on Thursday, January 16 at 17:00.
