It is now confirmed that Operakällaren is teaming up with Johan Evers and the team behind A Bar called Gemma to create Bar Othilia, set to open on January 16, 2025.
“With Othilia, I want to create an atmosphere where one forgets time and place. It should be a place where everyone feels included and at home. The first thing you should think when you leave is: ‘When can I come back?’. The vision is to create something timeless – a place that becomes an institution in itself. By nurturing Operakällaren's history, I also want to challenge it, open it up, and infuse it with playful and creative energy”, says Johan Evers.
Johan Evers is one of Sweden's most prominent bartenders, with a broad and extensive career and international recognition. Throughout his career, he has received several prestigious awards, including the title of Sweden's Best Bartender. Johan travels the world to conduct training sessions, lead seminars, and perform guest appearances. He is also a respected jury member in both international and national competitions. Evers is behind the success of “A Bar Called Gemma,” which has not only established itself as one of Stockholm's most innovative bars but has also garnered international attention and been recognized as one of the world's foremost.
“Johan and I have known each other for 20 years, and I have followed his successes and progress over the years. Together with Johan and Bar Othilia, we have now put another important piece of the puzzle in place. The house is opening up in a completely new way”, says Oscar Durling, CEO of AB Operakällaren.
The bar will be a long-awaited and natural enhancement to the overall experience at Operakällaren. To the already high standard of food and wine, a world-class bar is now added, with a unique connection to Sweden's foremost wine cellar, Nobiskällaren.
Here, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the world's finest wines and experience guest appearances from internationally acclaimed bartenders and creators. The bar will become a destination that not only elevates the standard but also adds a completely new dimension to the gastronomic experience at Operakällaren.
“Opening our ‘living room,’ Othilia, feels like an important part of the vision I shared with Daniel – to make Operakällaren a vibrant place that is open to everyone – and for all occasions. To further develop gastronomy with Johan and create an expression where food and drink meet in a way never before seen at Operakällaren is both exciting and inspiring”, says Emanuel Tärnqvist, Executive Chef Operakällaren.
Othilia premieres on Thursday, January 16, at 5 PM.
